A new print I worked up today for Staple!. I really like this one. I love creating the pulp style paintings, but I think I enjoy doing the magazine cover layouts almost as much. It kind of completes the painting for me.

This is also available at The Manly Shop.

Staplers Ripped My Flesh!

Here's my self promo poster for Staple! 2010. I should have 15 or so to sell at the event. If I have any left I'll put them in my online store.

Also, here's the painting without all the stuff on it...

Hope to see you at Staple!

New t-shirt design I have available in my online store. It came out really nice. I've found myself a good screenprinter... and he's only about 5 minutes from my house. Bonus!

Here's the original drawing...

I've started doing my inking with a brush and sumi ink. I'm really enjoying it.

A long awaited package from overseas showed up on my doorstep last Friday. It was my 3A Bertie 7 pack. Holy cow that's a lot of toys to open at once! :)

The 7 pack is mixed in with some of my other 3A toys.

More pics here. There are 7 pics.

Barbarella!

Barbarella Blue, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Barbarella. Savior of the galaxy. She stands as a reminder to go out and fight intergalactic evil. With sex. Who needs weapons?

This is my re-imagined Barbarella poster complete with the original tag line.

The original drawing was for an art trade with the talented Becca at No Smoking in the Skull Cave. I really like this drawing, so I decided to do something more with it. I hope you like it!

Paper size: 6.5"x19"
Image size: 5.5"x18"

Now available at The Manly Art Shop!

Year of the (Flying) Tiger

This is a Year of the Tiger poster I designed. Because Year of the Flying Tiger would be much cooler in my book.

Here are the original inks (with digital half tone) for the poster. The Chinese character for tiger was originally black, but I decided to tone it back.

Prints are available in my Manly Art Shop.

Super Punch!

Hey, there's a little Q&A with me over on the awesome Super Punch! blog.

This is the first in a series of Star Wars pin-ups I plan on doing in the very near future. I was going for more of the pin-up that someone (i.e.- soldier, mechanic, etc.) in the Star Wars universe might actually have in their locker or by their bunk.

Here's a keychain I'll be selling at Staple! this year. The keychains are sequentially numbered from 1-150 and are black plastic with gold foil heat stamp. They will each come with an 'S' hook and ring attachment for your key(s). I'll also have these on my Etsy whenever I can get enough stuff together to get that cranked up.

To give credit where credit is due, I got the initial inspiration from A Continuous Lean.

(I would have posted an actual photo, but I was having a heck of a time shooting the foil. It's like a mirror)

Guinea Diptych

Guinea Diptych, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

My guinea pigs, Pierre and Chewie, commissioned me to do a portrait of them for my girlfriend Lisa. Since we recently moved to Texas, they wanted to be in western outfits. Pierre chose to be a bandito while Chewie went for the classic cowboy.

Each portrait 4" x 6" Ink on illustration board

p.s.- Our guinea pigs didn't really commission me to do their portraits. That would be crazy. Guinea pigs don't carry that kind of cash around.

p.p.s.- Lisa loved it. :)

p.p.p.s.- Pierre thought the 'stache looked sweet and is now bugging me to buy him one for "the ladies".

Durwood Chalker 1923-2009

Durwood Chalker 1923-2009, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Durwood Chalker passed away at the age of 86 shortly after 9:00pm on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Durwood is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Vada Ray (83) and his three sons: Daniel (Cherry), David (Julia) and Jason. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Jessica, Daniel II, Hannah, Noah, Caleb and Phoebe. Durwood was preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. and Leona Cook Chalker, a sister and three brothers. His surviving siblings are Merle Wilcox (sister) of Cisco and Sam Chalker (brother) of Bastrop.

Durwood was born on August 22, 1923 in Eolian, TX. He answered his country’s call and enlisted in the Navy in February of 1943 in the submarine service. During his service in World War II, he achieved the rank of Radioman, 2nd Class and was stationed on Guam for the bulk of his service. Durwood was honorably discharged in January of 1946.

After the war, Durwood attended Texas A&M and graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 1950. Shortly thereafter he began work as a junior engineer at West Texas Utilities in Abilene, Texas. A friend introduced him to Vada Ray McAdams in 1953. Durwood and Vada hit it off, and were wed in December of that year.

Durwood continued working hard at West Texas Utilities and became president in 1975. He was very active in the Abilene community until he was transferred to Corpus Christi, Texas to be president of Central Power and Light in 1979. He was quickly promoted again to CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the holding company, Central and Southwest Corporation based in Dallas, Texas in 1980. He continued on in that position until his retirement in 1988. During his retirement he continued to enjoy playing golf, jogging and reading. He was especially happy to have more time to be a doting grandfather.

Throughout his life, Durwood always made time for his family, many charities and worthwhile causes. He served as a director or trustee for many organizations, such as the Communities Foundation of Texas, the Boy Scouts Circle Ten Council (for which he was awarded the Silver Beaver), the Sammons Foundation, the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation, the Texas A&M Chancellor’s Century Council and others.

Durwood was a “die hard” Aggie, loved to laugh and was never one to simply watch life go by. Even with all of his success in the business world and his many awards and achievements, Durwood remained a humble, honest West Texas country boy at heart. Durwood Chalker was a wonderful man who led an amazing life. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Beer drinking Bumble

I just finished up the art for this years Huns X-mas pub crawl.

This is the original art for the Pub Crawl shirt. I've recently started inking with a brush and sumi ink. I'm really enjoying it. Let me know what you think.

Rumors of my demise...

... have been greatly exaggerated. Sorry I've been gone for so long. I just finished a rather large move from Chicago to Dallas after buying my first house. The last couple of months have been a bit hectic!

So, to (hopefully) make up for my extended absence, here is a Molotov Cocktease and a Naughty Leia. I did these for a couple of buddies that went above and beyond the call of duty helping me move. I also spruced up my blog a bit to get in the holiday spirit. Let me know what you think!

Victor Von Hook

I thought I'd jump on the Disney/Marvel mash-up bandwagon in honor of Disney purchasing Marvel Comics for $4 Billion. I'm interested to see what comes of it.

In case you can't tell, it's Captain Hook as Victor Von Doom (Dr. Doom).

Get this book. It's fantastic. Darwyn Cooke's graphic adaptation of Richard Stark's classic crime novel is dead on. Seriously. Go to your local comic shop or Amazon and get it today. You'll be glad you did.

Modofly just added one of my new designs to their sketch/notebook line. This is the cover spread and a mock-up of what the actual book will look like..

The quality on these books is top notch. So, hurry and buy one so you can be the first kid on your block to have one of these fine manly sketchbooks!

Subway [to] Roma, originally uploaded by manlyartjpc.

Howdy folks! Sorry I haven't been posting for a couple of weeks, but I took a (much needed) two week vacation to Italy. I'm heading to Comic-Con next week, so posts may be a little infrequent until I return. But, I'll make it up to you. I promise!

This was taken in the subway going from the Vatican to the Colosseum.
