This is final packing I modified for my R5-A3 Armstrong custom.

As part of the R5-A3 custom I built, I thought it would be fun to make the packaging look as close as possible to a genuine 3A Toys box. This is one of the elements for the packaging.

This was a nice little experiment. I've always loved Ashley Woods style and I finally had an excuse to try and mimic it. While I don't think anyone would look at this and say "Hey, that's an Ashley Wood painting!", I feel like I got in the ballpark.

R5-A3 (3A Armstrong/1977 MPC R2-D2 Mash-Up)

This is R5-3A, my latest custom! I combined a 3A Armstrong with a 1977 MPC R2-D2 for this one. I made the blaster from scratch.

R5-A3 is a prototype battlefield Recconaissance Droid deployed with the 357th Star Corps. Equipped with a portable ion pulse canon, R5-A3 was very effective against the droid armies of the Separatists. Unfortunately, due to financial cuts, this droid was the only one produced.

If you are interested, this custom is up for auction on Ebay.
You can check out the listing HERE.

I don't know if Cab Calloway ever did any Halloween concerts, but if he had, it would've been awesome. This poster is inspired by Cab's sequel to Minnie the Moocher. If you've never heard The Ghost of Smokey Joe, check it out. It's one of my favorite Halloween songs!

Girls on Film

Girls on Film by Manly Art Hot for Teacher

These are my pieces for the I Want My Music Video Art Show opening tonight at The Meltdown Gallery in Hollywood, CA. They are based on the videos for the unrated version of Duran Duran's Girls on Film and Van Halen's Hot for Teacher.

The two paintings I did for this show are the first ones I've actually painted all of the type and graphics. Normally I treat my pulp style pieces like a traditional assignment and do all the layout stuff digitally. I'm still figuring out how I feel about it.

There are some amazing artists in this show. I'm really not sure how I got mixed in with them. I have a feeling mine are going to be the crap pieces in the show. If you live in the LA area, I highly recommend going to check it out.

Space Junk™ Trading Cards- Preview Set

It's official! The Space Junk™ Trading Cards Preview Pack will be making it's debut this weekend at Fan Days in Irving, TX. If you're in the DFW area, come by and pick up your very own set of 5"x7" awesomeness!

If you can't make it by the convention this weekend, I will be putting the remaining packs up at the Manly Art Shop on Monday.

Space Junk! is my new trading card idea. I will have oversized (5"x7") preview cards with me at the Fan Days convention in Arlington, TX in October. I don't know if this is something people will be into or not, so I'm doing the samples before I go full bore and make the first series. There will be 4 different preview cards.

Russian Anti-Aircraft Dunny

This is one of the custom toys I did for the Vinyl Thoughts Art Show happening tonight in Dallas.

The show has been getting some good local press and Tomopop actually did a nice interview with me.

I did a bit of kit bashing on this one. Its a MiniMunny body with a small Dunny head and assorted bits and pieces from model kits. I scupted the padding in the turret and the machine gun cowel on the front.

An open letter to Topps

Dear Topps,

I just picked up some Wacky Packages (which I have loved since I was a kid) for 3.99 a pop and all I get now is 3 cards and a stick of crappy gum? That’s basically a buck a card and $0.99 for a stick of gum. With the economy the way it is, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I’m sad to say I won’t be buying any more cards until you either drop the price or start putting in more cards per pack.

Sincerely,

Jason Chalker
