BatMun Noir

Rotofugi had a really fun event Sunday. Kid Robot supplied a bunch of free Munny Mobiles and they had a "Mini Munny Mobile Decorating Party" that was free and open to anyone. This is my Adam West era Batman. It took me about 2.5 hours. It was a lot of fun being around so many people creating at the same time. Thanks Kirby!

This weeks Austin Sketch Squad theme was "France". While, yes, my first thought was "French maid, oolala", I thought I'd do a drawing of one of France's most famous, if not notorious, actresses.

The theme for this weeks Austin Sketch Squad challenge was "Disguise". I was feeling a little goofy tonight, so I drew a squid in disguise. A squid who apparently has a flair for the vaudevillian.

Samson & Delilah

This is my painting for the Old Testament part of "An Art Show of Biblical Proportions" happening in Austin Easter weekend. I treated it like a cover for a pulp novel. So many of the stories in the Old Testament would make great pulp stories.

Sol Finkelstein was a smut publisher who found God later in life. While he had a change of heart, he didn't know how to change careers, so he came up with a compromise. Pulp stories based on the Bible. This surprisingly successful series was called "The Torrid Torah- Sultry Tales from the Bible".

It's a catch up week at the Austin Sketch Squad so I decided to work on the Graffiti Tag challenge. I like where my Manly Art tag is going, so I'll probably clean it up and finish it.

Sketchbooks!

Jordan has posted the next generation of sketchbooks/notebooks over at Modofly. They have developed their own custom book, and now the covers are in full color! The samples I have seen look really top-notch. I have two designs in this round, so go check 'em out (click on the images to go to their pages). If my stuff isn't your cup of tea, there are fantastic books from the likes of Jason Limon, Dan May, Susan Rudat and many other talented artists.

Meet Chewie & Pierre. The newest editions to my family. Lisa picked them up in Grosse Pointe when she went home last weekend. They are a little over 6 weeks old. They're settling in nicely.

The topic for The Austin Sketch Squad this week was Chuck Norris in Greek Mythology. In this pottery shard, we can clearly see Chuck Norris beheading Medusa with his famous round-house kick. Chuck Norris is so tough he could stare Medusa in the eye and not turn to stone.

This is part of a t-shirt design I'm working on for an Easter pub crawl the Huns RFC is hosting next month in Austin. She'll be leaning on the lettering. Alright, I'm back on track. Something came up and I had to take a 2 day hiatus from painting. I should get another 2 done before I leave for Austin on Friday. Next up should be Boba Fett.

I'm going to start doing small paintings for a while. With the economy the way it is art may not be a priority purchase for most folks, so I'm doing small paintings that are less than a hundred dollars. Also, they're a lot of fun to paint. I'm hoping they'll catch on.
